Netflix fans have limited time remaining to watch a series that’s been branded “better than Gavin and Stacey“.

Award-winning sitcom Catastrophe will be departing Netflix on Saturday (April 25), leaving fans disappointed.

The sitcom, which debuted in 2015, is created and written by Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney. The duo also star as Irish primary school teacher Sharon and American businessman Rob, who initially encounter each other at a London bar.

Following a brief fling, Rob returns to the States. The pair are subsequently reunited after their six-day romance leads to an unplanned, high-risk pregnancy and an uncomfortable new relationship, permanently altering their lives.

The programme’s ensemble cast also features Ashley Jensen as Sharon’s frenemy Fran, Mark Bonnar as Fran’s husband Chris, and Carrie Fisher as Rob’s mother Mia Norris, reports the Mirror.

Following a triumphant first series, Catastrophe received three additional instalments, which broadcast in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

All 24 episodes are presently available to watch on Netflix, though time is running out to immerse yourself in Sharon and Rob’s chaotic lives, as the programme departs the platform within days.

Despite concluding seven years ago, Catastrophe continues to resonate with audiences and critics alike.

It currently holds an impressive 98% critics score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience rating stands at 92%. Viewers have continued to champion the series, with many declaring it “better than Gavin and Stacey”.

“This show is better than sleep. I kept seeing trailers for this and finally one night I watched episode one. Immediately hooked, and ended up watching the entire season throughout the night” one person wrote on IMDb.

Another added: “I’m 45 and love Gavin and Stacey, largely due to the fine writing and interesting character development of the show’s supporting players, Ruth Jones and James Corden. Catastrophe, on the other hand, stays with its leads – thank goodness – through an abbreviated six-episode opening season, and we’re both hooked.”

A third said: “Catastrophe may be the best written show in several years. All six episodes in the first season crackle with the best of England’s dry humour and America’s unflappable confidence in the face of impending disaster.”

A fourth viewer shared similar sentiments, saying: “This show is perfect. A spectacular series you can watch in one sitting. Love it,” while another likewise commented: “I’m in awe of this series.”

A sixth fan remarked: “I wish I knew about this show before now. I was just browsing, looking for comedies. I have a really hard time laughing at most comedies, but I tend to like British comedies. This is absolute gold. This really needs to be around more. I wish more people knew about this show. Very underrated!”

Catastrophe is available to stream on Netflix until Saturday, April 25
