Childwall Sports and Science Academy was locked down yesterday

Merseyside Police issued an update after a school was locked down yesterday, May 14. Childwall Sports and Science Academy went into lockdown after a threat was believed to have been made towards a pupil at the school.

The threat was reportedly made at around midday on Wednesday, May 14. The academy then followed its lockdown procedures while Merseyside Police attended the premises. There was no wider threat to other pupils or members of staff at the school.

Parents were told not to attend the school in a letter sent from Childwall Sports and Science Academy, although parents were seen racing to the school to collect their children following the news of the threat.

The ECHO was told the building was secured as a message appeared on screens across the school and in classrooms, with pupils not allowed to leave class during lunch.

Shortly after 5pm Merseyside Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of malicious communications. He taken to a police station for questioning.

The 16-year-old boy has now been released on bail with conditions and enquiries are ongoing, police confirmed this morning.

The full letter to parents read: “Childwall Sports and Science Academy is currently in a lockdown as a precaution to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

“Please do not come to the school at this time, as staff are focused on managing the situation and will not be available to speak to parents.

“We will provide further updates as soon as it is safe to do so. Thank you for your cooperation.”
