Police are investigating a suspicious fire that broke out in Aintree this afternoon. Emergency services were called to Hartley Avenue at around 1pm on Tuesday, May 26, following reports a white Transit van and a forklift truck were on fire inside the site.
Firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) attended the scene alongside officers from Merseyside Police, with crews working to extinguish the blaze. MFRS confirmed two fire engines were sent to the incident after crews were alerted at 1.25pm.
A police car remains at the scene, with one person telling the ECHO officers had maintained a presence there “for hours”.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We are appealing for information following a suspicious fire in Aintree today, Tuesday 26 May.
“At around 1pm it was reported that two vehicles, a white Transit van and forklift, were on fire inside premises on Hartley Avenue.
“Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire.
“A joint investigation between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.”
A spokesperson for the service said: “Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident on Hartley Avenue, Aintree on the afternoon of Tuesday May 26.
“Crews were alerted at 13.25 and on scene at 13.30, with two fire engines attending.
“On arrival two vehicles were well alight, firefighters extinguished the fire and assisted Merseyside Police before leaving the scene at 17.04.
“A joint investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.”
