What you need to know about Towyn, the North Wales seaside town loved by Liverpool families.

  • Towyn is a coastal town in North Wales situated just outside of Rhyl. It has historically been a highly popular destination for families visiting from Liverpool.
  • Over the years, the town has continually evolved and adapted to keep attracting new visitors. The main draw for tourists remains its numerous caravan parks, beaches, and amusement arcades.
  • A significant part of Towyn’s thriving tourism industry is tied to the Knightly family and their established amusement business. The family first set up Knightly’s Fun Park in the area during the 1960s.
  • The business was founded by Luke Knightly’s grandparents, who had a strong background as travelling show people. This rich heritage and way of life is what eventually led the family to settle down in Towyn.
  • The entire enterprise remains a family affair, with Luke Knightly currently overseeing the expansive operations. He manages the funfair, bars, and amusement arcades alongside his three children.
  • For the upcoming season, the funfair has introduced several exciting new rides and attractions for guests. These additions include a pirate ship and a ride with a space theme called “Apollo 13”.
  • Luke describes running the amusement park as a highly demanding job that is truly endless. During the height of the summer, he often works for roughly 120 hours a week to keep everything running smoothly.
  • Despite the long hours and difficult weather conditions the coast sometimes faces, the work is rewarding. For Luke, seeing families enjoy their day makes the effort worthwhile, and he views operating the park as a deeply ingrained way of life.
