The installation is available from 10am on Saturday
The Museum of Liverpool’s staircase will receive a colourful transformation this weekend. The landmark stairs will become the centrepiece of a new public installation aimed at highlighting the financial challenges facing young adults in the city.
The museum’s steps will be turned into a one-day artwork titled “Staircase to Adulting” on Saturday, 18 April, created by local artist Alicia Woolley. The installation is designed to represent the practical steps young people can take to improve their credit score and better manage their finances, such as paying bills on time and registering to vote.
The project has been launched by Citizens Advice in partnership with Loqbox, as new research reveals the scale of financial pressure on Generation Z.
Citizens Advice, which supported around 53,000 people under 25 last year, says the installation aims to make financial guidance more visible and accessible, while encouraging young people to take manageable steps towards improving their financial wellbeing.
The public art installation is for one-day-only and available to see at Museum of Liverpool on Saturday, April 18 between 10am and 5pm.
Thomas Monaghan, from Citizens Advice, said: “If young people are beginning to manage their finances without the knowledge or support they need, it’s understandable they may feel stressed or lose sleep over money worries.
“Staircase to Adulting aims to highlight that it’s normal to find dealing with finances daunting at first, but there’s free, impartial advice available to help people take each step with confidence.”
At the Pier Head, a new Visitor Welcome Centre has opened providing a dedicated point of contact for visitors. The unit will provide information on attractions, cultural events, accommodation, restaurants, transport, tours and attraction tickets, as well as souvenirs and free city maps.
The team will also deliver pop-up welcome services at major events and locations taking place across the city. Previous activity supporting visitors at events included the Labour Party Conference, Eurovision Song Contest and BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
The new Visitor Information Centre at Pier Head will act as a temporary base while preparations continue for a permanent home in the Liverpool Gerry Marsden Ferry Terminal.
