Grace Parkin has kicked her £1,000 spending habit and shed nine stone
A mum said her Uber Eats driver must think she’s dead after she shed nine stone. Grace Parkin said she was impulsive spender who would regularly treat herself to takeaways at the weekend.
The 34-year-old reached 19st 9lbs at her heaviest when she was inspired to overhaul her lifestyle. The mum-of-one has cut two stone before she decided to try Mounjaro in 2024. She said: “It’s been incredible It turns the food noise off.”
Previously, Grace said she would spend up to £1,000 a month on recreational items, as she said: “I’d go through phases. I’d be just buying shoes – trainers, Uggs, boots. Then it will be – buying a load of jumpers, holiday clothes when I’d not even booked a holiday.
“I’d get an idea in my head – like I need some new sunglasses. I wasn’t getting into debt but if I was bored in an evening – I’d buy from Boohoo, PrettyLittleThing, Shein any brands that did plus sized clothes.
“I spend anything from £50 to £200 to £300 a night. Two or three times a week be in my local shopping centre – I’d come out with bags off stuff.
“I was void filling – looking for that adrenaline. Any disposable income – would go on anything relating to pleasure. Anything that was going to give me gratification.
“If I could spend money and it could give that rush – I’d do it.” She added: “It was endorphin purchases. Now if I need something I buy it but I no longer buy things due to boredom.
“I’m saving in excess £600 a month.” This included takeaways after a night out, as she said: “I’d think ‘it’s the weekend – I can treat myself to a takeaway’. By Monday I’d hate myself and be back to the diet.”
The estates manager from Sheffield said the weight loss jab, which she pays for privately at £150 a month, has given her additional control and joked her Uber Eats must be mystified as to why they aren’t delivering takeaways at her home anymore.
She said: “I had money left after the first month on Monjouro and thought I’d missed a bill. I’m still doing the nice things – but paying more for experiences.
“I am sure my Uber Eats driver probs think I’ve died. He knows me by my first name. My Evri driver asked – is everything alright? I got rid of 15 black bags of clothes – most of which I’d never worn.”
Grace said she’s had no side effects from using the weight loss jab, which is usually used to treat people with Diabetes. However, other people have reported feeling nauseous and experiencing stomach discomfort after taking the GLP1 medication
Her monthly cost for Mounjaro has recently soared to £320 but Grace has no plans to stop just yet, as she said: “Even with the price increase still going to be in the black.
“Not everyone in position they’ve got spare income. I will shop around pharmacies to save money. I need it – don’t want to go back to where I was before.”
Grace previously underwent a gastric balloon in 2009 – when she was just aged 18 – but only lost three stone and didn’t find it helped with her eating habits. This prompted her to hit back at those people who have criticised her for taking weight loss jabs.
She said: “Why would you want to be miserable? When I say I have battled obesity and used medication people say ‘you’ve cheated’. I’ve tried it the hard way.
“This has been life-changing. It’s saved my life. It sounds cheesy but it has.”
