The 4.5kg Morrisons giant Toblerone bar is currently on sale in Morrisons, however the price has left some shoppers stunned as they blamed things on the cost of living crisis

Most of us enjoy a bit of chocolate every now and then, but fans of the beloved Swiss chocolate brand Toblerone can truly indulge with one particular product currently on the shelves. Devotees of the iconic treat, renowned for its honey and almond recipe and distinctive triangular shape, can now purchase a whopping 4.5kg bar at Morrisons supermarket – though it certainly doesn’t come at a bargain price.

In-store signage reveals that the enormous Toblerone bar is on sale for £80. However, shoppers can currently snap it up for £50 by using the retailer’s More Card. The offer was discovered by popular food account New Foods UK, which shared a photograph of the chocolate bar on sale with the caption: “Huge 4.5kg Toblerone spotted at Morrisons.”

The post swiftly attracted a flurry of comments, with many shoppers left stunned by the hefty price tag.

One person exclaimed: “It was £80? Where’s the Panorama documentary?”

While another added: “What in the cost of living crisis is going on here? 50 English pounds, lord have mercy.”

A third chimed in: “It’s still at least £40 overpriced, even with the reduction!”

As a fourth simply probed: “£50?!”

Despite the widespread astonishment over the cost, some shoppers were still keen to get their hands on one, with one person writing: “That looks amazing. Definitely need to add this to my shopping list.”

Morrisons appears to be the sole UK supermarket currently stocking the giant 4.5kg bar in-store. However, those keen to purchase the 80cm-long bar can arrange home delivery through Amazon UK, Cadbury Gifts Direct and Wholesale Sweets/Hancocks.

Amazon frequently stocks the giant bar, with prices typically around £72.79.

Meanwhile, Cadbury Gifts Direct offers the official giant bar through its website, usually priced at £85.

Confectionery wholesalers Wholesale Sweets/Hancocks sell it to members of the public or businesses for approximately £82.79 – £95.29.

Morrisons originally introduced the enormous bar as a viral attention-grabber for its Black Friday 2017 shopping event.

While it began as a scarce novelty item, its overwhelming success transformed it into a regular seasonal offering.

Rather than appearing on supermarket shelves throughout the year, the brand now deliberately releases it as a limited-edition present for key UK celebrations, chiefly Father’s Day, which occurs this month, and Christmas as the perfect stocking filler.

Morrisons has been contacted for comment.
