Liverpool player ratings from the 2-0 loss in their Champions League quarter-final second leg at home to Paris Saint-Germain, who progress as 4-0 winners
Liverpool fell short in their attempt to produce an unlikely comeback as they slipped out of the Champions League against holders Paris Saint-Germain. Despite dominating the second half of their second leg at Anfield, the Reds were consigned to defeat when Ousmane Dembele scored with the visitors’ first shot after the break on 72 minutes before netting again in injury-time to secure a 4-0 aggregate success.
The result means Arne Slot‘s side now have only Champions League qualification to play for during the final six Premier League games of an extremely disappointing season.
The ECHO was in attendance at a very, very wet Anfield and here we run the rule over the performances of the Liverpool players.

Giorgi Mamardashvili 6
Punched away cheeky long-range lob from Dembele in otherwise quiet first half and nothing to do after break other than pick the ball out of the net.
Jeremie Frimpong 5
Really struggled with simple passes and the swirly conditions and hesitant with the bouncing ball before break. Subbed.
Ibrahima Konate 7
Went walkabout on one occasion before break but otherwise stuck to defensive task and one good interception before interval leading to impressive second-half showing. Booked.
Virgil van Dijk 7
Denied certain goal by superb Marquinhos interception and aggressive, front-footed defending throughout.
Milos Kerkez 7
The one Liverpool player to show proper fight from the off even if his passing wasn’t always on point. Among those who deserved better.
Ryan Gravenberch 6
Bit tentative at first before a decent spell made way for one where he kept giving ball away, but better after interval and much more determined and had some shots.
Dominik Szoboszlai 7
Put in a good shift early on but among the many to lose possession a little too easily first half but improved after that. Had to end the game at right-back, however.
Florian Wirtz 6
Looked like he could create problems with neat passing but didn’t see enough of ball and too far away from the PSG goal. Frustrating.
Alexis Mac Allister 5
Tried to impose himself early on to little reward and often found the game going on around him. Had penalty award reversed and lost Dembele for PSG goal. Booked and subbed.
Hugo Ekitike 5
Appeared not to have learned from Paris with some over-elaborate play at times before suffering a nasty-looking injury. Subbed.
Alexander Isak 6
Early header saved and had offside effort stopped by Safonov during understandably fitful showing on his first start since December. Subbed.
SUBS
Mohamed Salah (for Ekitike 31) 6
Cross caused problems immediately and saw plenty of ball second half but chance created for Kerkez was rare moment of quality.
Joe Gomez (for Frimpong 46) 6
Headed one effort over from corner but didn’t last long before being subbed.
Cody Gakpo (for Isak 46) 6
Very lively initially and forced Safonov into one good save with low shot but faded a bit.
Rio Ngumoha (for Gomez 67) 6
Had one shot saved and showed he can compete at this level.
Curtis Jones (for Mac Allister 74) 6
Got into some good positions in box but couldn’t quite get shot away.
