A man was seen “covered in blood”
Two men have been arrested after a man threw a glass at another man before being struck on the head with a walking stick. Merseyside Police were called to Great Charlotte Street in Liverpool city centre at just after 8.35pm on Friday, June 12, following reports of a fight involving two men.
The man struck to the head was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment. His condition is described as stable. Police cordoned off part of Great Charlotte Street, near St John’s Shopping Centre and Clayton Square, following the incident.
Numerous officers, police vehicles and police on horseback were at the scene, while forensic investigators later arrived to examine evidence.
Forensic officers were seen photographing the area and collecting evidence. Blood-stained tissues were recovered from the ground and placed into evidence bags, while evidence markers were laid within the cordon.
The Gym Group, located within the cordoned area, remained open, with officers allowing members access to the entrance.
Witnesses reported seeing a man “covered in blood” following the fight.
One shopkeeper told the ECHO: “There was a big fight outside. I saw a man go past with blood all over his head.”
A security guard added: “It was just a fight. I saw a man and two others. One of the men was hit over the head.”
Another witness said: “There was a load of shouting and then we just saw these men going for each other. One of them was covered in blood after. I don’t know what happened after that.”
Police said a 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray, while a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
