Michael Ball tackles the big issues at Hill Dickinson Stadium following Everton’s 3-0 win over Chelsea
With games coming up against Brentford, who are level on points with Everton, and Liverpool who are just three points above us now, the chase for Europe is in our own hands and it’s great just to be in that conversation. David Moyes has come out publicly and said how this club belongs in Europe.
Whether it was realistic to do it in his first full season was always going to be a big ask given that they were just one point above the relegation zone when he came back in. But we’re there or thereabouts with seven games to go.
We’ve got tough tests ahead against our arch-rivals and we’ve also got Manchester City to come at Hill Dickinson Stadium. There are no easy games, but this is a huge test for David Moyes and the boys.
They’ve gone toe-to-toe with Arsenal and just beaten Chelsea. We’re on a nice little run and with the confidence, belief and desire we’re showing, there could be a massive reward at the end of the season.
Let’s just go for it. If we fall short, it happens, but we’ve not expected to be here.
The work since David Moyes and his staff came in shows the levels that we’ve now pushed above. The manager will want levels to keep rising.
If you’re a player, start setting yourself targets. Can we get into Europe? Can we finish above Liverpool?
You’ve got to have that belief. You can’t just be happy finishing where you are.
We probably would have been satisfied merely bettering last year, finishing 12th and having a nice, sensible season. A bit of improvement with no stress going to the game, fighting against relegation.
There’s no pressure on David Moyes and these Everton players. We’ve got to use that to our advantage because there is pressure on other clubs and their fanbases to hold on to where they are.
They’re not happy with how their seasons are going but we’re flying high and full of confidence. Let’s not put the flipflops on, let’s strive to see what we can do and whether it can bring even bigger smiles.
