Coronation Street fans have predicted Todd Grimshaw could find love with James Bailey following his harrowing abuse ordeal with Theo
Coronation Street viewers have been predicting a fresh romance for Todd Grimshaw.
Todd (now portrayed by Gareth Pierce) has been a fixture on the long-running soap since making his debut in 2001, and throughout his time on the programme he has been at the centre of numerous landmark moments.
None more so than right now, as Todd finds himself at the heart of a deeply distressing storyline examining abuse within a same-sex relationship. Over the past year, Todd’s boyfriend Theo (James Cartwright) has been manipulating and controlling Todd in an attempt to dominate every aspect of his life.
Viewers believed matters had finally reached breaking point when the couple split last month, only for them to get back together. Things then took yet another startling twist when the pair ended up wed just days after Theo sprung a surprise wedding on Todd.
Theo was ultimately exposed this week, following a savage and brutal attack that left Todd bloodied and bruised. In Wednesday’s (April 15) episode, specially dedicated to the abuse storyline, Todd gave a statement to police, reports the Daily Star.
Theo, meanwhile, attempted to flee but was taken in for questioning and spent the night behind bars. The following day, as Todd lay in hospital recovering from his horrific injuries, Theo was issued with an order to stay away from him.
In spoilers for the coming week, Todd returns to the cobbles with his nearest and dearest rallying around him, where police assure him they will do everything within their power to keep him safe from Theo.
Reeling from recent events, Todd intends to visit his mother Eileen (Sue Cleaver) and brother Jason (Ryan Thomas) in Thailand.
However, he remains unaware that Theo – who has been sleeping rough in his van – continues to monitor his every movement.
While it’s probable Todd won’t be pursuing another relationship for some time following his traumatic experience with Theo, fans have already begun speculating about his next potential partner: James Bailey (Nathan Callender).
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: “I hope when Todd gets through this and is ready for another relationship, he finds a nice man. I liked him with James.” Another supporter agreed: “Yeah him and James would be a good couple.” A third simply wrote: “James!”
