The Cheese Cellar reopens this week in its new home

A cheese business is set to reopen in its new home in Allerton Road. The Cheese Cellar announced in March it would be relocating from its long-established site in Garston in a bid to combat “quieter periods”.

The Cheese Cellar is a joint venture between friends Lynne Murphy and Michelle Hunt. The pair opened the shop together just under two years ago with the aim of livening up the area and attracting more people to Garston.

The decision to settle in Garston was due to lower rental prices compared to popular areas such as Rose Lane and Lark Lane. A statement posted on Facebook from Lynn and Michelle revealed the store was moving as the quiet periods outweighed the busier ones.

The post said: “To our valued customers… we have some important news to share. After almost two wonderful years serving our community here in Garston, we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to relocate The Cheese Cellar to Allerton Road, L18.

“This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly. We’re currently open five days a week and, while we do have busy times, unfortunately our quieter periods far outweigh them and the level of footfall in Garston has made it impossible for us to continue trading sustainably here.”

Lynn and Michelle went on to thank the community for their support, loyalty and warmth, admitting they’ve become “far more than customers”. They added: “You’ve become friends and that means the world to us.

“Allerton Road is only up the road though and we sincerely hope you will continue the journey with us there. Your support means everything and we look forward to welcoming you through our new doors very soon.”

The Cheese Cellar closed on Sunday, March 29 with a short break before relocating to L18. The hiatus is now over with signage posted on the new shop and a reopening date set for Friday, May 8.

Announcing its arrival on Instagram, The Cheese Cellar said: “After all the planning, the prep, and the very long to-do lists, with a little help from our friends — our sign is up on our Allerton Road shop and things are nearly ready. We plan to open up the doors officially on FRIDAY morning and we cannot wait. “

A “sneak peek” will be held on Thursday allowing guests to take an exclusive look inside the new site with a cheese and wine evening to “ease us in”.
