Police believe the man was walking with a woman at the time of the incident

Police have released CCTV images of a man they are looking to speak to after a man was stabbed in the torso. Cheshire Police said officers were called to reports of an incident near the junction of Greenings Court and Battersby Lane in Warrington at around 11.40pm on Friday, May 1.

Emergency services attended and found a 44-year-old man with stab wounds to his torso. He was taken to Aintree hospital for treatment. Police said his injuries were not believed to be life-changing and he has since been discharged.

As part of ongoing enquiries, detectives have now released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the investigation.

He is described as white, aged between 30 and 50, of small build and around 5ft 8in tall. Police said he had dark blonde hair brushed back, was clean shaven and was wearing a hiking-style jacket over a light-coloured T-shirt. He was also believed to be carrying a rucksack and wearing sports-style trainers with reflective detailing.

At the time of the incident, the man is believed to have been in the company of a woman. She is described as white, aged between 20 and 40, with long dark hair.

The woman was wearing a sleeveless dark crop top and light blue ripped jeans. She may also have been carrying a khaki green jacket and a large light-coloured tote bag, and was possibly walking barefoot.

Detective Constable Ed Davy, of Warrington CID, said: “I’d like to reassure the residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

“We’ve already spoken to a number of witnesses as part of our investigation, and I would like to thank the local community for the support provided.

“As part of ongoing enquiries, we’re keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage which may aid the investigation.

We’d also like to hear from anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images, we know the pictures are not great, but if you think you know who he is please get in touch.

“I’d urge anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact the team here at Warrington.”

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website, or on 101, quoting incident number IML-2320317.

Information can also be passed on anonymously via CrimeStoppers, by calling 0800 555 111
