Content creator Brock from the US tried Greggs for the first time after hearing it was a ‘UK institution’ — and he was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the prices

An American sampling Greggs for the first time has declared one item “better than the US”, rating it even higher than the iconic sausage roll. Content creator Brock ventured into the bakery chain after learning it was a “UK institution”.

Upon entering, he was met with an impressive array of pastries and baked goods, selecting a bacon and sausage bap, a sausage roll, a steak bake, a jam doughnut, and a mint mocha. He observed that all the items “smell good” and remarked on how packed the shop was.

While he’d tasted “better” coffees than his limited-edition mocha, he acknowledged he’d also had “worse,” awarding it 6.5 out of 10. In a video on his Globetrotting Brock YouTube channel, he said: “It’s good enough where I’d get it again because it’s cheap enough.

“The price was £2.80 and I got it as a meal deal with the sausage and bacon breakfast roll.”

Brock then moved on to the sausage and bacon roll with brown sauce, costing £4.15 with the drink, straight away pointing out how thick the bread was. He suggested the sandwich “wasn’t bad” for the money but favoured a sandwich from an American bakery, awarding the roll five out of 10, reports the Mirror.

The blogger characterised the steak bake crust as “extremely buttery and flakey,” comparing the pastry to a “big sausage roll”. He concluded: “I really like it, even though the steak is a tiny bit chewy, the crust is just so flaky and the gravy inside is nice and warm, not too salty, pretty good overall.”

He awarded the steak bake eight out of 10. Moving on to the chain’s legendary sausage roll, Brock noted the pastry was “a bit drier” than the steak bake, yet concluded it was “still really flaky”.

He said: “The sausage inside is a lot softer than any other sausage rolls I have tried anywhere, that’s including New Zealand and Australia. It’s really surprising to me, I didn’t think the pork would be this soft.

“It does have a pretty mild flavour, it’s just pork, it doesn’t taste like it’s had any seasoning in here. But it’s still not bad, like everything else here, especially for the price.”

Brock handed the sausage roll a seven out of 10, adding: “I like it, the flavour is a little mild but beside that, the price and the softness of the pork is really nice.”

Rounding off his visit with a jam doughnut, Brock took a bite and remarked: “That’s some really good jam in there. It’s covered in sugar and it’s leaving a mess all over me but it’s not bad.

“It’s more like a bread consistency in there but it’s still really soft. And the jam is really sweet.

“I like the jam doughnut, it might be one of the better jam doughnuts I’ve ever had. This is a really good jam doughnut, better than in the US.”

He rated the doughnut an impressive 8.5 out of 10, concluding: “Honestly, Greggs actually surprised me. It’s better than I thought it was going to be and the price is really decent.”
