Debbie Webster caused concern on Tuesday’s Coronation Street
Coronation Street’s Debbie Webster sparked worry during Tuesday’s instalment of the ITV soap.
Last year, Debbie received a devastating diagnosis of early onset dementia and since that time, Carl Webster, who was believed to be her brother but is actually her biological son, has been exploiting the situation.
Earlier this year, Debbie accepted responsibility for the Corriedale car pile-up, which resulted in the death of Billy Mayhew, despite Carl being the culprit and Debbie being aware of this truth.
In a disturbing turn of events, Carl, who had been consuming alcohol, even relocated an unconscious Debbie into the driver’s seat to protect himself.
Consequently, Debbie was imprisoned but owing to her early onset dementia and exemplary conduct while incarcerated, she succeeded in winning her appeal and has subsequently been freed, reports the Daily Star.
During Tuesday’s episode, currently available on ITV X, Tracy Barlow and Mary Taylor gathered with a bride, her mother and mother-in-law at the Chariot Square hotel to arrange wedding flowers.
While Debbie poured the Champagne, she delivered some inappropriate comments, leaving the bride’s mother startled and Ryan Connor worried.
Soap enthusiasts will recognise the actresses portraying the bride, mother and mother-in-law with the latter having previously featured in rival soap Emmerdale.
The bride, Kerry, was portrayed by Charlotte-Hannah Jones, the mother of the bride was portrayed by Nia Trussler Jones and the mother of the groom was portrayed by Sakuntala Ramanee.
Charlotte-Hannah has previously featured in the 2021 film Last Train to Christmas, while Nia has made appearances in Industry, Death Valley and Mammoth.
Sakuntala, meanwhile, has featured in Emmerdale, taking on roles including Dr Pattani, Namrata Rathid and Dr Mukherjee. Further credits include Granite Harbour, Casualty, D.I. Ray, Doctors, EastEnders, Line of Duty and The Bill – to name but a few.
As the week progresses, Debbie receives her latest scan results and is unsurprised to learn that her condition has deteriorated. Over at the café, Debbie’s husband Ronnie is infuriated to catch Carl flirting with Jodie and confronts him over his apparent indifference.
As the week draws to a close, Debbie mentions to Carl over lunch that she’s thinking about taking up dance lessons. It isn’t long before Carl coaxes her to her feet and teaches her the waltz, while Ronnie looks on as Debbie laughs and smiles.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV and ITV X.
