A man injured following a serious assault at a pub is now in a stable condition. Merseyside Police has confirmed the man in his 30s, who suffered a head injury during the serious assault at the Hare and Hounds pub in Huyton and was previously in a critical condition, is now stable.

Merseyside Police was called to the pub, on Cronton Road in Huyton, to reports of the incident at around 7.45pm on Tuesday, June 3. It came after reports of a fight during a funeral function at the pub, with officers arriving to find a man in his 30s with a serious head injury.

He was taken to hospital for assessment. A 47-year-old man from Whiston and a 47-year-old man from Huyton were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and common assault.

The two men who were arrested were bailed following questioning, with enquiries continuing.

Officers remained at the pub the following day to speak to witnesses and gather evidence.

Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said: “We continue to appeal for any witnesses of the incident as our enquiries are ongoing.

“Your account, images or footage could be vital as we look to establish exactly what happened. We believe that a private function was taking place at the time, and we need to speak to anyone there who has yet to make themselves known.”
