Products are recalled regularly from a number of different retailers for different reasons
Virtually every week in the UK official product recalls are published on the Government website. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is responsible for updating the public on products which have been pulled from shelves.
OPSS are responsible for the regulation of most consumer goods excluding food, medicines, and vehicles. Products are recalled regularly from a number of different retailers, for various reasons. This week we have recalls from Next, TK Maxx and B&Q. Recalls published by the government website are for specific products that have been sold in the UK and may require you to act to receive a free replacement, repair or refund.
Products which present a serious or high risk and those which have been recalled or subject to a modification programme are published on Gov.uk. The OPSS says its primary purpose it to “protect people and places from product-related harm, ensuring consumers and businesses can buy and sell products with confidence.”
Products are recalled due to safety concerns, defects, or regulatory non-compliance among other reasons. You can see the latest product recalls below:
TK Maxx
TK Maxx are recalling a number of children’s clothing items as they present a risk of drowning. The retailer has pulled its Children’s Swim Vests off shelves and from its website over health and safety concerns.
The recall has also been issued by Gov.uk, who state on its website that the product presents a “high risk” of drowning, as it has not been appropriately conformity assessed to demonstrate that it can perform as required. The product comes in a variety of patterns and designs.

- Product description: Various child swim vests. Patterns and designs: whales, dinosaurs, sharks, starfish, unicorns, crabs, fish, juice floats or seahorses. Some swim vests have attached goggles
The product has been identified as presenting a high risk of drowning as it is classed as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and was not supplied with the required compliance documentation or markings to demonstrate that it has been adequately conformity assessed.
The products do not meet the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on Personal Protective Equipment. Advice on Gov.uk says: “The products have been recalled from end users. Owners of any of the life vests should cease use immediately and return to any TK Maxx or Homesense store for a full refund.
B&Q
B&Q has recalled a number of dryers over safety concerns. On its website and social media platform Facebook, B&Q has urged customers to stop using the affected products immediately, urging people to “unplug” the appliance. The tumble dryers were manufactured between January 2019 and June 2024.

B&Q states: “If you have purchased one of the products listed below, please check Haier’s website here: https://productsafety.haier.co.uk to find out if your model is affected by inputting the serial number.
“We take consumer safety very seriously and to reduce risks to a minimum, stop using the appliance immediately and unplug it. Contact Haier Customer Service Team on 08081780516 for further information.”
Product recalls happen when a product is found to have a defect or a safety issue that could harm consumers or their property.

Next has recalled Miss Summer Dresses and Outfit Sets as they present risks of strangulation and choking as they have decorative draw cords which exceed the maximum permissible length
While worn, the cord may become entangled and tighten across the child’s neck, leading to strangulation, entrapment or choking. The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
