A suspect has been named after a man was attacked during a burglary. Merseyside Police received a report at around 8.10pm on Friday, December 6 that a man had sustained a head injury and a puncture wound to his arm following a burglary at his home in Newton-le-Willows.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and following a search arrested another man. Leon Burgess, 22, of Clarence Street, Newton-le-Willows has been charged with aggravated burglary and a section 18 wounding with intent.

He has been remanded into police custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates’ Court today, Monday, December 9. Merseyside Police has set up a dedicated portal where people can send CCTV, smart doorbell or dashcam footage of suspicious activity in their area but don’t know if it is linked to a specific offence. It can be uploaded here.

Footage will be reviewed for potential links to reported offences in your area and may help Merseyside Police gather evidence to solve burglaries and bring offenders to justice. You can also report any concerns to police on 999 if a crime is in progress, via 101, or via X @MerPolCC.
