Hot weather is on its way to Merseyside once again

After a mild week interspersed by frequent downpours, the UK is preparing for another mini-heatwave. Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 24C in Liverpool today, with light rain giving way to bright sunshine.

Summery temperatures will continue this weekend, according to the Met Office, with highs of 24C and 25C predicted on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29.

And Monday is forecast to be a scorcher, with temperatures falling just short of 30C in Merseyside.

Today, June 27, the Met Office predicts weather will be “grey and rather gloomy at first with widespread cloud bringing spells of rain, these heaviest across northern parts”. This will become “increasingly humid and breezy for all, especially along the coast” with temperatures of 23C.

Tonight is forecast to be “mainly cloudy, with rain lingering across northern parts, some heavier spells over the higher ground. Drier further south, but feeling warm and muggy for all.”

Temperatures are expected to creep ever-higher throughout the weekend before peaking on Monday, June 30. Following this, a drop is expected, with milder temperatures of 21C on Tuesday, July 1, and 20C on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Met Office said: “Conditions will likely continue to be changeable through much of July. The wettest and windiest conditions look most likely towards the northwest with a risk of some heavy rain at times, especially over hills.

“Southern and eastern areas are most favoured for longer drier and more settled spells, although even here some rain or showers will be likely, perhaps heavy and thundery at times.

“There are signs of more widely settled weather during the second half of July, however this signal is very tentative. Temperatures are expected to be above average for most areas, especially towards the southeast where there will be an ongoing chance of some very warm or hot conditions at times.”
