Matt Tebbutt welcomes back co-star

BBC’s Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt didn’t skip a beat as he welcomed wine connoisseur Olly Smith back on the show. The pair reunited in the latest episode, much to viewers’ delight.

Beforehand, BBC Breakfast stars Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty probed about what was coming up on their culinary Saturday show.

Matt took the opportunity to announce that Silent Witness actress Liz Carr would be joining them, before turning his attention to Olly with a jovial: “Olly, back in my life, I haven’t seen you in a while.”

Olly Smith’s cheerful response was: “I’m back, delighted to be back!”

Conversation quickly turned to personal updates and wardrobe choices, with Olly commenting on Matt’s shirt following Naga’s jest that it bore a resemblance to attire the Grim Reaper might wear during summer.

Olly commented: “I’m quite liking the shirt, it says to me cocktail party and special ops, which is it going to be? never quite know with you.”

Traditionally, either Olly Smith or Helen McGinn provide their wine insights on Saturday Kitchen, though in recent weeks, Helen has been the familiar face dispensing advice.

The episode commenced with Matt noting Olly’s absence, and Olly affirming: “I’ve been alright, I’ve been gallivanting and glad to be back!”

During the show’s run, Olly sought out an alcohol-free gin alternative for Liz Carr, who was unreserved in sharing her opinion on the matter, reports the Express.

She remarked: “I mean, it’s nice, but this is my baseline for today. If I’d rather just have the tonic water with a squeeze of lime, which quite a lot of them I think the tonic is just nicer. It’s the botanical malarkey, I’m not reall-“.

Olly jumped in to say: “This botanical, the juniper, lemon-” But Liz quickly shut down the conversation responding: “You can say juniper so many times, but it’s still not, I get it, it’s lovely.”

Matt couldn’t help but laugh at her straightforwardness, joking: “What we like here is honesty!”

Saturday Kitchen is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
