Police issued an update following reports of an unconfirmed shooting. Merseyside Police were called to Balfour Road in Bootle at around 10.55pm on Tuesday, December 3.

It followed a report of shots being fired near to Chestnut Grove. However, no damage has been found or injuries reported. In an update today, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said following an “extensive search of the location” no evidence was found to confirm a shooting took place.

A scene was in place on Knowsley Road close to the junction of Balfour Road, encompassing Chestnut Grove. When the ECHO arrived at the scene, multiple cordons were in place and a police van and several officers were guarding the cordons.

A taxi driver, who was picking a passenger up this morning, said: “They won’t let me through. It’s not nice for the kids going to school having to see this.” Another woman told the ECHO residents had to sign in and out if they wanted to leave the cordon and were not allowed to move their cars.

One resident, who lives inside the cordon, told the ECHO: “We heard it happened around midnight. The cordon has been extended since then, it was only half way up the street during the night. They [police] won’t let us take our cars out. I couldn’t get to work this morning.”
