Netflix is bringing to life “Gen Z’s own Bonnie and Clyde” with an unbelievable true crime drama on the way.
An Ozark icon is uniting with a House of Guinness star for an epic crime drama that’s become it’s creator’s “daily obsession”.
The Altruists will be arriving on Netflix, retelling the startling true story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison who carried out a multibillion-dollar fraud, stealing from customers to cover their debts and poor investments.
Characterised as “hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists”, Sam and Caroline attempted to “remake the financial system in the blink of an eye – before they were accused of stealing $8 billion”.
Bringing Gen Z’s equivalent to “Bonnie and Clyde” to the screen are two stars who are well acquainted with iconic Netflix programmes.
Taking on the role of Caroline Ellison is none other than Julia Garner, renowned for her appearances in Ozark, Inventing Anna and, most recently, the award-winning horror film Weapons.

Garner is accompanied by actor Anthony Boyle as Sam Bankman-Fried, with the Irish star best recognised for his portrayal of Arthur Guinness in Netflix’s House of Guinness.
Some of his other major roles have included Masters of the Air, Say Nothing and Manhunt.
They won’t be the only familiar faces in this eight-part limited series, with Heated Rivalry actor Hudson Williams and Dirty Dancing icon Jennifer Grey both appearing in recurring roles.
“For nearly three years now, Sam and Caroline’s story has been my daily obsession,” The Altruists co-showrunner Graham Moore revealed to Tudum.
“I’m so grateful to my friends at Netflix and Higher Ground for loving this story not only as much as I do, but in the same way that I do.
“And we can’t wait to show all of you why.”
Also contributing behind the scenes is executive producer and director James Ponsoldt, known for his work on shows like Daisy Jones and The Six, Shrinking and Running Point.
Reports suggest that Ponsoldt has directed the inaugural episode of The Altruists, with filming concluding towards the end of 2025.
The Altruists will be available to watch on Netflix.
