The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Merseyside as the scorching weather is set to come to an end this weekend. Summer conditions have arrived in Liverpool as temperatures have reached highs of 30C.

However, the dry conditions are expected to come to an end tomorrow when rain is set to arrive. The showers are expected to begin at 11am on Saturday.

A thunderstorm warning has been issued by the forecasting agency as conditions are expected to worsen in the afternoon. The yellow alert will come into force at 3pm and stretches until 4am on Sunday, June 22.

The Met Office said: “Scattered thunderstorms may cause some impacts Saturday afternoon, into the evening and night.” The forecasting agency has issued a map of where the thunderstorms are set to hit.

Merseyside is included in the maps as the yellow weather warning covers the North West, North East, East Midlands, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber.

Maps show the alert is in force across Merseyside

The alert said people should expect: “Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost. There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

“Where lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.” The full forecast for the North West on Saturday said: “Very warm and humid with hazy sunny spells during the morning.

“Scattered showers, some thundery, breaking out, with localised torrential downpours and large hail later. Becoming very muggy. Light winds. Maximum temperature 28 °C.”

The outlook for Sunday – Tuesday said: “A fresher and breezier spell of weather from Sunday and into next week. Showery rain moving through Sunday afternoon, followed by sunshine and showers on Monday then cloudier on Tuesday.”
