The award-winning film is set to air on BBC Two tonight

Stars of La La Land stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone

A “masterpiece” film said to be “one of the best movies of the century” will be on TV tonight.

La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, follows aspiring actress Mia and jazz musician Sebastian as they fall in love in Los Angeles, while trying to achieve their dreams.

However, the couple are ultimately torn between their new relationship or career aspirations.

The musical went on to be a huge hit and has been regarded as one of the best films of the 21st century.

As well as box office success, the musical achieved several major award nominations, including 14 Academy Award nominations, of which it won six.

Many will remember the film was incorrectly announced as the Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards following a mistake on the announcement card.

It was revealed that the actual winner of the Best Picture award was Moonlight, leading to one of the Oscar’s most unforgettable moments.

The award-winning film has an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 91% based on 470 reviews. Many reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes have shared glowing takes on the film.

A reviewer shared: “Masterpiece. My favourite musical of all time. My favourite movie of all time.”

A second reviewer added: “A rollercoaster of emotions! One of my all time favourite endings of a film to this day, which also left me completely devastated. This movie sticks with you.”

Another reviewer added: “One of the best movies of the century, you don’t need to like musicals to like it. Many movies have been about actors and musicians but this is the best of all.”

A third reviewer said: “The cinematography, acting, Ryan Gosling, music, everything was perfect. Love this movie and you better love it too.

“The message, man Damien Chazelle cooked here. What a beautiful film.”

La La Land will air on BBC Two at 11pm on Friday, May 9.
