A spat between Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and Liverpool transfer target Marc Guehi has been played down, according to reports. The Reds remain in talks with their Premier League rivals over a possible move for the 25-year-old central defender.

The FA Cup holders could be forced to sell their captain this summer after entering the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park. However, conclusions over a possible rift between the head coach and the captain emerged following their goalless draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

After the full-time whistle at Stamford Bridge, the Austrian appeared to shout Guehi to have a conversation after applauding the supporters.

However, footage from Sky Sports showed the England international looking at his manager before bowing his head as he walked down the tunnel.

The encounter left Glasner looking visibly bemused by the interaction, who then sought an opinion from Jean-Philippe Mateta, who equally had little clue about possible anger from his teammate.

However, journalist by Bobby Manzi has since revealed Guehi was selected for a routine drug test and he was keen to get the test completed.

He shrugged off talk of a standoff with his manager as a miscommunication.

It comes just weeks before the transfer window shuts with Liverpool keen on further adding to their defence.

The ECHO has reported that the £26million deal for Giovanni Leoni will have no impact on their attempt to sign Guehi.

Meanwhile the Independent have reported that the two clubs are £10million apart in their valuation for the former Chelsea academy product.

Liverpool are said to be insistent that they will only pay £35m for a player who will be available on a free next summer, while Palace are suggested to be wanting around £45m.

Chairman Steve Parish conceded that they may have to sell Guehi this summer, in order to not lose him on a free at the end of the season.

“We’d have to do that, of course,” he said. “For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem for us unfortunately.

“Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn’t afford to lose both. We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January but that was a different situation.

“We’ll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”
