Police followed the bike as it made a U-turn at a roundabout
A man and a woman have been arrested following a police chase in which a flick knife was found. At just before 6.30pm last night, Wednesday, May 7, officers on patrol were travelling along Waterpark Drive, Stockbridge Village, when they spotted a Kawasaki ZX9R with a male rider and a female pillion passenger.
The officers followed the bike as it did a U-turn at the roundabout at the junction of Haswall Drive, continuing back along Waterpark Drive.
As the officers followed, the bike accelerated at speed towards oncoming traffic and failed to stop after emergency equipment and sirens were activated, police said.
The bike continued towards the roundabout of Mab Lane at speed, going through a red traffic light at the junction of Princess Drive, continuing on Yew Tree Lane. The bike then travelled on the offside of the road in order to overtake other vehicles, allegedly travelling over the speed limit.
The bike was then ridden along Blackmoor Drive and East Prescot Road where it was seen to continue speeding and used the pavement to complete a U-turn.
Police said the bike was stopped as it approached an alleyway at low speed using “tactical contact”. The rider and passenger were then arrested. Following a search a flick knife was recovered.
A 49-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and using a motor vehicle without insurance.
A 45-year-old woman from Stockbridge Village was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Both are currently in custody.
Roads Policing Chief Inspector Stuart McIver said: “Thanks to the vigilance and expertise of the Matrix roads policing officers the bike and its riders were detained safely and with no injuries to members of the public.
“A flick knife has also been recovered. Combatting knife crime remains a priority for Merseyside Police as we know the terrible consequences when people carry knives and we would always urge anyone to come forward if they have information about anyone carrying weapons.”
Anyone with information about anyone carrying or storing weapons is asked to DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
