Diogo Jota posted a picture to his Instagram profile after returning to Liverpool training ahead of his side’s clash with Girona in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Portuguese international had sustained a rib injury in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in October. Before this, he was performing well, grabbing three goals and one assist in his last four games for the club in all competitions. Jota was quickly proving himself to be the starting forward over struggling Darwin Nunez.

But after the six foot two Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo landed straight on the five foot ten forward, he hasn’t played since. Manager Arne Slot has had little to choose from in terms on strikers with Nunez being the lone striker left as Frederico Chiesa continues to struggle with his injuries.

Ahead of the abandoned Merseyside Derby, Slot had said that Jota was ‘close to being back.’ The Dutch boss has been very secretive with injury updates, but finally, fans have been treated to some news about Jota and other injured players.

The news comes from Jota himself. The forward took to Instagram to share a picture of him training with the team with no caption on his story. Not only has this broken a silence on his injury, but it has lifted the spirits of Liverpool supporters to see him smiling in the photo – clearly happy to be back.

Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker was also involved in training after suffering a hamstring injury in October.

The news of the returning players comes ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League bout tonight against Girona. The Reds remain the only team to win all their games so far and sit proudly at the top of the table. Girona are 30th having won one of their five games, losing the other four. They kick off at 5:45pm UK time.
