Jamie Oliver has revealed his recipe for “different level” garlic bread to impress guests over Christmas. The celebrity chef praised the dish for being “super convenient for this time of year” as it can be prepped, made and frozen.

Jamie’s garlic bread is rolled and stuffed with a creamy garlic and parsley stuffing, which substitutes butter for cream cheese. On his YouTube channel, he said: “I know we live in a world where you can buy garlic bread everywhere and it’s easy, but it’s Christmas and this is, flavour-wise and texturally, different level.

“It’s got the parsley, which is classic, and the garlic of course, but I’m swapping out butter – which I love – for cream cheese – which I really, really love. I know that my friends and family are going to destroy this.”

So, if you’re ready to impress this Christmas with something different, without further ado, here is Jamie Oliver’s for gorgeous garlic bread.

Jamie Oliver’s recipe for Christmas garlic bread swirls

Put 500g of strong flour on your work surface, making a well in the middle and adding a good pinch of salt for seasoning. Add 325ml of lukewarm water to the well, along with one sachet (7g) of yeast.

Use a fork to incorporate the flour from the outside, with the water and yeast. Once you have a dough, spend four to five minutes kneading it.

Roll your dough into a ball, add it to a slightly oiled bowl (to prevent it sticking), cover with a damp cloth and allow it to prove (rise) for around an hour – or until it has doubled in size.

Now, make breadcrumbs “for the crunchiest base” by tearing up 50g of stale bread into a food processor with a little oil and blending. Remove the breadcrumbs into a bowl.

For the garlic bread filling, put a large bunch of parsley, three to five large cloves of garlic, a good helping of cream cheese, the juice of one lemon and a pinch of salt into the food processor and blend.

Once your dough has proved, knock it back and take the air out of it. Put a little oil on a clean surface and on your hands, putting the dough on the surface.

Stretch it out thin into a rectangular shape, taking care not to tear. Add the garlic mix and rub it in evenly with a spoon, adding a little salt and olive oil.

Roll the dough inwards, tightly at first, and then keep rolling until you have a giant garlic bread swirl. Rub a pan with olive oil and put an even layer of breadcrumbs on the bottom. Make sure to sprinkle some crumbs on the bread too.

Cut the bread into one inch swirls and place them on top of the breadcrumbs, so you can see the swirl shape from above. You can cook the garlic bread straight away or do what Jamie does, which is allow it to prove in the fridge overnight – doubling in size.

When it is ready to cook, put in the oven for half an hour at 180 degrees Celsius and enjoy.
