The ITV host has fronted the quiz show since 2009
Bradley Walsh told The Beast to “shut your cakehole” after he made a suggestion about his future on the quiz show. In a recent instalment, Paul, Jacob, Susan and Karina made up the team of four fresh contestants hoping to test their general knowledge skills against one of the UK’s best quizzers.
Karina from London was first up to take on The Chaser, who in this case was Mark “The Beast” Labbett. She accumulated £5,000 in her Cash Builder but failed to outrun The Chaser in a tense head-to-head.
While Karina left the show empty-handed, Susan hoped to make a better impression. She gave a great performance, earning an impressive £6,000 in her quick-fire question round.
Susan’s successful run continued and she was able to bag herself a spot in the final chase, kickstarting the shared prize pot. Jacob was next up, who also accumulated a great score of £6,000 in the Cash Builder round.
But Bradley Walsh was shocked when the quizzer decided to take The Chaser’s lower offer of just £1,000, after proving his excellent talent for general knowledge.
Wasting no time, Jacob said: “£1,000, I want to get back.” The ITV presenter was stunned as he said: “Wow that was quick.” Many fans tuning in to the show were just as surprised by Jacob’s decision.
On X, viewers questioned Jacob’s safe choice and one wrote: “He even surprised Brad by taking the £1k.” Despite the controversy, Jacob breezed through a tricky head-to-head and earned his position alongside Susan in the final.
Bradley’s wasn’t surprised by the contestant’s success. He explained: “You don’t come away from the Cash Builder with £6,000 if you’re not a good player.”
He joked: “I know – I’ve played the game many many times” While laughing, The Beast said: “No you haven’t” as Brad snapped back: “Shut your cakehole.”
Mark made the suggestion: “I want you to actually play the game”, but Bradley joked: “I’m too busy trying to run it here.” He added: “Trying to ringmaster the circus.”
Paul from Leeds was the last contestant eager to test his general knowledge skills against The Beast. He claimed £7,000 in the Cash Builder before making the difficult decision before his head-to-head.
He was tempted by The Chaser’s higher offer of a whopping £63,000. Despite his teammates encouraging him to play it safe, Paul said: “You’re only here once Brad. £63,000.”
After a confident approach, Paul’s time on the quiz show came to an unfortunate end when he was caught by The Chaser. He soon heard Bradley Walsh’s dreaded words: “You have been caught and for you the chase is over.”
When Paul said his goodbyes, Susan and Jacob were left to take on The Beast in the final chase. However, their score of 13 was not strong enough to triumph on the quiz show. In the end, they both left empty-handed.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1
