Viewers of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here were concerned for former boxer Barry McGuigan as he endured an ‘impossible’ trial. The day’s Bushtucker trial was called ‘Spiralling Out of Control’, and the Irishman put his hand up and volunteered to do the trial. Heading to the Bushtucker trial area, he told Ant and Dec “it was my time to step up.”

Ant and Dec revealed that he would be strapped to a giant spiral wheel, with one hand free. He would win stars by throwing balls into the hatches around the side, when they opened. With each ball into a hatch equalling one star. Consisting of five rounds, the first four rounds would be two minutes each with two stars to win, ending with a three minute round where three stars were up for grabs.

With Barry all strapped in, he was joined by some offal, cockroaches and giant mealworms to kick off proceedings, before he started spinning around. Struggling to find his bearings with the spinning, he found getting the right aim very difficult, only managing to get one ball in a hatch with ten seconds to go during round one.

Taking to social media, some viewers were concerned that Barry’s well-documented problems with his eyesight might make the trial too challenging for him.

On X, @222virgo222 said: “This trial is so unfair on Barry…he literally can’t see.” @HAmmGgkwjhJJoHh said: “Did they actually test this trial out beforehand? Lol near impossible.” @thirlwclls added: “This seems like such a hard trial, it’s bad enough trying to get the ball in the hole but doing it while spinning as well?!”

However, with the spiral wheel picking up the pace, so did Barry as he successfully got a full house in all other rounds, scoring an impressive 10 out of a possible 11 stars.
