Fans are begging to see John Sugden’s long-awaited downfall
Emmerdale fans were not happy with a recent storyline which saw Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) confess to murder. In the latest instalment of the ITV soap, villagers were informed of a dead body which had been recovered from in the lake.
Jumping to conclusions, Ruby immediately assumed it was her dad Anthony, whom she killed earlier this year. In a heartbreaking plot, Ruby revealed her dad sexually abused her when she was a child.
It turned out that Anthony was the biological father of Ruby’s daughter Steph, which left her husband Caleb (William Ash) devastated. After years of hiding her anger, Ruby finally confronted her dad and she murdered him, leaving John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) to dispose of the body.
Last week, it was revealed that a dead body had been found in the lake and Ruby was convinced it was Anthony. Before the identity had been confirmed, Caleb planned for the family to go on the run to Ireland.
At the end of the episode on Monday (June 2), Ruby secretly made her way to the police station to give a statement. Rather bluntly, she told the receptionist: “I’m here to confess to a murder, I’m Ruby Miligan, I killed my father Anthony Fox.”
Emmerdale fans were stunned to see Ruby make such a drastic decision alone. Taking to social media, one fan said: “Was not expecting Ruby to confess just like that.”
Despite her honesty, viewers believe Ruby has made a huge mistake. She decided to confess to murder before the identity of the body had been confirmed.
Fans know that Anthony Fox is not the only dead body in the village, and that Nate Robinson’s corpse has been floating in the lake for months.
Earlier this year, a dramatic limo crash saw Amy Wyatt, Leyla Harding and Suzy Merton lose their lives. But while Amy was trapped under the ice, she spotted Nate’s lifeless body floating in the water.
Oblivious to Nate’s real fate, fans saw the villagers finally start to realise that no one has heard from Nate for months. Last month, an eerie flashback revealed all as Nate injured himself in the barn fire.
John rushed over to try and save him with an injection, but Nate suffered a reaction and he collapsed and died. In an attempt to hide the evidence, John disposed of Nate’s corpse in the lake.
Fans are convinced that it is Nate’s body, not Anthony’s, that the police have found. They continued to express their frustration about Ruby’s mistake.
Taking to social media, one fan said: “Bloody hell Ruby what you thinking it’s not Anthony it’s Nate” while a second agreed: “If Ruby had any sense she’d wait then when she finds out it’s Nate in the lake.”
More added to the conversation on X: “You’d think they’d wait until they knew who the body was. Not making themselves look guilty from the get go”, “Ruby should’ve waited” and “Ruby is a big fool especially as it’s not her father they recovered.”
Although Ruby is oblivious to the truth about Nate’s tragic death, fans are begging to see John Sugden’s long-awaited downfall. One fan said: “Blame it on John and call it a day I beg.”
A second said: “Let’s just blame John for the whole Anthony thing” and a third added: “It’s clear John will get set up for this murder, so wake me up when this storyline ends.”
Viewers will have to wait until Wednesday to find out if Ruby’s “mistake” will cause more harm than good. Will John take the blame or will Ruby go to prison for manslaughter?
