Coronation Street’s Vicky Myers has supported her co-star Sue Devaney as she shared a striking professional photograph of her in character as Debbie Webster. Vicky is renowned for her role as DS Lisa Swain, having joined the soap in 2021.
The soap star recently celebrated her four year anniversary in the role of the police detective on Coronation Street. The 49-year-old actress was in disbelief at how quickly time had passed.
She regularly updates her 43,000 followers on Instagram with her life off-screen. Her co-star Sue Devaney, who portrays Debbie Webster, recently shared a professional snap of her looking “serious” while in character.
In recent episodes, viewers have witnessed Debbie Webster undergo a number of tests for dementia. She has been concerned about her memory loss and mistakes she had made at work. In a heartbreaking turn of events, Debbie discovered her illness is incurable and she will eventually die.
Debbie struggled to come to terms with her fate and has been unable to open up to anyone about her diagnosis. She recently confided in her half-brother Carl (Jonathan Howard), but has pushed her fiancé Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) further away as she made the heartbreaking decision to end their engagement.
Sue is excelling in the hard-hitting storyline and fans are disappointed to see her bid farewell to the ITV soap. Sue shared a photograph of Debbie in character, looking away from the camera.
She captioned the post: “Thank you @daniellebaguley & @davec64 for bringing out my serious side! I never knew I had one”, followed by red love heart emojis.
Her Coronation Street co-stars rushed to the comments to support the actress. Vicky Myers said: “There she is! Sunshine in human form and talent that’s off the scale. You’re incredible @suedevaney13.”
Jane Hazelgrove, who plays Bernie Winter wrote: “Look at that strong beautiful woman! Class act!” Daniel Brocklebank (Billy Mayhew) added: “Gorgeous darling! X”
Channique Sterling Brown (Dee-Dee Bailey) said: “The talented Queen you are” and Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe) added heart eyes emojis.
Several Coronation Street fans also added to the comment section to support the star on her emotional storyline. One said: “Your’re doing a great job with this storyline.”
A second wrote: “I think you are an absolutely wonderful actor. I love watching you on Corrie you are brilliant. Top character superb actor – thank you! X” A third added: “You’re an amazing actress Sue I’ll be gutted when you leave the show.”
The next few months will see Debbie embark on her own health journey as she comes to terms with the diagnosis and what it will mean for her and her family.
Coronation Street producers are working closely with Dementia UK on this long term storyline which will explore the effects of young onset dementia on Debbie and those close to her.
Sue Devaney has spoken about her character’s devastating fate, as she said: “It is an honour and privilege to be given this sort of storyline. A lot of people are saying, why give it to Debbie? She’s so vibrant and she’s so full of life.
“But I think that is where a good story lies because it’s somebody that has everything and also words are important to Debbie. She has a quick wit and everything is so important, money and success. She’s been dealt this hand of this illness and it is going to be interesting to follow her journey.”
