Coronation Street might be saying goodbye to soap favourite Gary Windass in a surprising murder storyline twist.

Gary (Mikey North) first appeared on the ITV soap back in 2008. Gary arrived on the cobbles alongside the rest of the Windass family, including mum Anna (Debbie Rush). And it wasn’t long before he became a fan favourite.

The builder has also been involved in numerous major storylines throughout the years. From his unsuccessful relationships on the cobbles to his PTSD struggle, Gary’s journey in Weatherfield has been packed with drama.

Particularly right now, as in Sunday’s episode (March 29) Gary discovered the truth about his mate Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) who has been mistreating his partner Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) for several months.

As viewers will remember, Theo’s real nature was revealed earlier this week after George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) caught one of Theo’s furious tirades directed at Todd, reports the Daily Star.

George subsequently shared his concerns with Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) and Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) about his suspicions that Theo’s been mistreating Todd. Sarah then informed Gary who initially had doubts about the accusations.

Nevertheless, as the proof began accumulating, Gary became furious and subsequently noticed Todd making his way into the flat. Gary then volunteered to accompany him inside but at the flat Theo was oblivious to his visitor and began hurling abuse at Todd.

Realising Gary was present, Theo attempted to backtrack. Gary then confronted him over what Sarah had told him, warning Theo that he would seek revenge should he discover the allegations were true. He told evil Theo: “I’m onto you, Theo, we all are,” before leaving.

Nevertheless, fans can’t help but fear that Gary could be heading for a shocking soap departure. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers are speculating that Theo could kill Gary, in what would be a devastating twist.

“I’m worried for Gary, Theo is evil,” said one person. Another chimed in: “Has Gary his match with Theo? Maybe Theo accidentally kills him or something.” A third penned: “Oh don’t say that! I love Gary.”

Someone else wrote: “I definitely think a fight is going to happen, maybe murder and that’s why Theo leaves, he gets sent to prison?” referring to the news that Theo will be departing the soap later this year.

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
