Viewers were quick to spot their connection
Coronation Street fans are convinced they have “worked out” which characters will get together in a shocking affair storyline set to shake-up the drama in Weatherfield.
Viewers have noticed Gary Windass (Mikey North) and Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) growing closer in recent weeks. Wednesday’s broadcast of the ITV soap saw Craig Tinker’s (Colson Smith) memorial service get underway at the Bistro.
The police officer was killed by Mick Michaelas last month when he found himself caught in the centre of a violent battle between Mick and Kit Green. Residents of the street arrived at the Bistro to pay their respects.
But Maria Windass (Samia Longchambon) was furious to see Lou walk through the doors, assuming she was there to cause trouble. The two hairdressers have proved to have a new-found rivalry, as Lou’s husband Mick tormented Maria’s son Liam at the builder’s yard.
Without giving it any thought, Maria told Lou to leave. Her husband Gary seemed to see a softer side to Lou and was keen to stick up for her.
To Maria’s disgust, Gary explained Lou wasn’t a reflection of her husband, and she deserves sympathy as a victim of domestic abuse to her husband’s violent persona.
Maria has shown her intense anger towards Lou in recent episodes, and she has been too distracted to notice Gary grow closer to Lou.
Last week, she caught them having a drink in the Rovers, as well as a quick chat in Speed Daal on a separate occasion. Gary even arranged to buy Mick’s van off Lou in secret.
Eagle-eyed fans have noticed Gary and Lou’s relationship start to blossom. Later in the episode on Wednesday, Gary received a text from Lou as she said thank you for his kindness. Gary was quick to delete the message to stop Maria finding out about their undeniable bond.
Elsewhere, she visited her husband in prison and told him: “The only person who treats me like a human is Gary Windass.” Following the episode, fans were quick to “rumble” the affair.
Taking to social media, one fan said: “Gary makes a good point about Lou being a victim too” while another said: “Lou and Gary again!!!!”
A third wrote: “Waiting for the Gary and Lou affair to start…” and a fourth added: “Obviously, Gary and Lou are gonna get together.” A fifth confirmed: “Can see the Gary and Lou affair coming a mile off.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV. Episodes are released on ITVX at 7am.
