Liverpool-linked Hugo Ekitike has liked a social media post following Jeremie Frimpong’s Premier League switch. The Netherlands international penned a five-year contract after signing from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds triggered the right-back’s £29.5m release clause and he became Arne Slot’s first signing of the summer. The switch came hours after it was confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold would leave Liverpool in time to feature for Real Madrid in the Club World Cup.

Despite only officially wrapping up the Premier League last Sunday, Liverpool are beginning their push for reinforcements in order to successfully defend their crown next season.

The Reds are favourites to land Frimpong’s highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz, despite Bayern Munich registering their interest in the 22-year-old playmaker.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ekitike is another player linked with a move to Anfield this summer and enjoyed a fine season with the Bundesliga outfit helping them qualify for the Champion League.

But Liverpool aren’t the only Premier League club mooted, as reports suggest that the France under-21 international is also on Chelsea’s summer radar.

The Londoners are said to be keen on landing the former Paris Saint-Germain forward’s signature following reports of interest from Anfield.

But with Liverpool’s business already underway ahead of their return for pre-season in July, there was some social media activity from the Reds-linked striker.

In a reel posted on Leverkusen’s Instagram celebrating his best moments in Leverkusen with Die Werkself, Ekitike was among those to like the post.

While the speculation suggests Liverpool may face competition for the attacker, they already have one signing wrapped up in Frimpong.

“It went quite easy,” he told the official Liverpool website. “Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer.

“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’ Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.

“I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”
