Armed police were deployed to a block of flats following a report of a firearm. Merseyside Police deployed officers from its firearms unit to Stonedale Crescent in Croxteth last night, Friday, July 18, to an unconfirmed sighting of a firearm.

Officers attended the area at around 8.15pm with images taken at the scene showing heavily armed officers searching inside a block of flats. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing.”

An eyewitness who contacted the ECHO about the incident said: “(I have) no idea what’s happening. I went for a walk, came back and there’s armed police everywhere.

“I asked what happened but they wouldn’t say. They hammered the doors down…the police did tell us all to leave and not to keep filming or watching. They were all very heavily armed.”

Chief inspector Chris Bland said: “We will remain in the area to carry out further enquiries to establish the circumstances and provide a visible presence for residents. “All such incidents are taken extremely seriously and if you live in the area and have any information, please come forward and tell us what you know.”
