Marvin King attacked his former partner after accusing her of being unfaithful
A thug who attacked his girlfriend in a jealous rage has been jailed. Marvin King strangled his partner after taking her phone and accusing her of being unfaithful.
The 33-year-old also picked up a kitchen knife and threatened to kill the victim’s dog, only stopping the attack when she agreed to remove any men from her social media accounts.
In a three-day trial that concluded on Tuesday, April 22, Chester Crown Court heard how King and his victim began their relationship shortly after meeting in August 2024, and initially their relationship seemed positive.
However, as their relationship developed, King, of Everest Road, Wigan, became jealous and controlling. The victim recalled an incident in October 2024 where King took the victim’s phone and accused her of being unfaithful.
When the victim tried to get her phone back, King gripped her by the throat and strangled her as she struggled for breath. He then spat in her face.
Following this, King picked up a kitchen knife and threatened to kill the victim’s dog. Fearing for their safety, the victim attempted to flee the property with her dog but was stopped at the door twice by King who wouldn’t allow her to leave.
The attack continued until the victim agreed to remove any men from her social media accounts.
The following day, the victim reported the incident to police and King was arrested and subsequently charged. Following the three-day trial, King was found guilty of intentional strangulation, section 39 assault, and threats to commit criminal damage.
He was sentenced to two years in prison and handed a four-year restraining order against his former partner.
Following his sentencing Police Constable Craig Simmonds said: “This was an extremely traumatising experience for the victim in this case and I hope that King’s sentencing, along with his four-year restraining order, will provide her with some reassurance.
“Domestic abuse is not acceptable and will never be tolerated, and we want to send out a clear message that nobody should have so have to suffer in silence.
“If you are a victim of domestic abuse, or if you know someone who is a victim, please get in touch.”
To report any incidents of domestic abuse contact Cheshire police on 101, or report online here, in an emergency call 999.
PC Simmonds added: “Help is also available through the National Domestic Violence Helpline, on 0808 2000 247.
“In addition, if you have concerns about your current or ex-partner, because you’re worried they may have a history of abuse and are a risk to you, then you can submit a Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) application.
“The scheme, also known as Clare’s law, enables the police to release information about any previous history of violence or abuse that a person might have.”
