Florian Wirtz has had a mixed season since joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen last summer but has been in good form for Germany in the international break
Liverpool star Florian Wirtz has delivered a masterclass for Germany during their 4-3 win at Switzerland on Friday night. The Reds midfielder scored two goals and provided two assists in the international friendly at St. Jakob-Park.
Wirtz has had a mixed season since arriving at Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen last summer for a fee which could go up to £116.5m. The 22-year-old has struggled to get up to speed with the Premier League after shining in Germany’s Bundesliga for Leverkusen.
The creative midfielder has scored six goals across all competitions and provided eight assists for Arne Slot’s side so far. And his talent was on full display against Switzerland.
Wirtz’s brace included a spectacular finish from the edge of the box an hour in. He then netted the winner in the 85th minute for Julian Nagelsmann’s team.

And the talented young star has spoken about his goals after the match when speaking to German TV channel RTL.
He said: “In the first goal, I’d be lying if I said I meant it to go exactly there, but I’ll take it. In the second goal, you can see that’s exactly where I wanted the ball to go”
Germany are in Group E for this summer’s World Cup alongside Ecuador, Ivory Coast and tournament debutants Curacao.
On whether winning the World Cup is his goal, Wirtz added: “Of course we all want to reach the final and bring the cup home. We know it will be rough, but we have a great squad and we don’t need to hide”

Friday’s win was Germany’s first over Switzerland since 2008. They return to action on Monday evening against Ghana, with Nagelsmann hinting at changes.
He said: “We’ll now see how we came out of this game and which players are fit.
“Then we’ll see exactly which players are ready and who we can field”
