Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa both trained at Liverpool’s AXA Centre on Thursday as Arne Slot and his squad geared up for Saturday’s visit from Fulham at Anfield.

Both forwards worked together away from the main group that was under Slot’s watch as the head coach and his staff put the players through their paces ahead of the weekend’s clash with Marco Silva’s side.

Jota hasn’t played for Liverpool since he was hurt in a collision with Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo during the 2-1 victory for the Premier League leaders back on October 20. However, the Portugal international stepped up his recovery by taking part in open training with his team-mates on Monday ahead of their flight to Spain for Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Girona.

Jota was not part of the travelling squad for the Champions League game, as he stayed behind on Merseyside to continue his rehabilitation but the former Wolves star was undergoing a session on Thursday alongside Chiesa at the club’s Kirkby base.

Chiesa has played around 80 senior minutes since moving from Juventus in late August and the club have been taking a patient approach towards reintroducing the Italy international into the first-team fold having barely had a pre-season with the Serie A giants before his £10m switch.

Chiesa featured for the Under-21s for around an hour on December but missed Monday’s session through illness before returning to the pitch alongside Jota while Slot took charge of the main group who will form the bulk of his thinking for Saturday’s game.

Slot will be in a position to update on their respective conditions when he speaks to the media on Friday morning but their returns would be timely with so many games still to come this month, including a Carabao Cup quarter-final at Southampton and a trip to Tottenham next week.

Slot will be without Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas for the visit of Fulham while Alexis Mac Allister is suspended. Alisson Becker, however, is expected to return to Premier League duty for the first time since October 5 after he starred in Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Girona.
