The incident happened in Birmingham tonight
Police and paramedics rushed to a Christmas fairground in Birmingham after a ride reportedly “collapsed”. The area is reportedly sealed off by police around a ride on Centenary Square in the city.
Birmingham Live is reporting that at the scene in Birmingham city centre said an armed police officer told them a ride had “collapsed”. They have contacted West Midlands Police to ask for more information.
Reporter Ben Perrin explained what a police officer had told him: “He said some were injured, but not sure how badly. Cordon seems to be around the City Flyer which is around 55m high.”
Images shared online appear to show seats on the City Flyer tangled with each other. Paramedics, police and firefighters have all been pictured at the scene.
Dozens of people were pictured at the park along with several police cars, ambulances and fire engines. The exact nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed by emergency services.
West Midlands police issued this statement: “We currently have officers in Centenary Square, #Birmingham following reports of an issue with one of the rides. A small number of people are being treated at the scene by paramedics, but no serious injuries have been reported. Centenary Square remains cordoned off this evening while we support our emergency service colleagues. Please avoid the area.”
