Ex-Liverpool defender Javier Mascherano has received his first message from Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham ahead of his new role as manager
David Beckham has sent a message to Javier Mascherano ahead of his new head coach role at Inter Miami.
The ex-Liverpool player was announced as the new head coach at Beckham’s Miami based side last week. It will be Mascherano’s first club managerial role after only previously taking up roles for his national team Argentina.
He first coached the Argentina Under-20 team before leading the main national squad to the 2024 Summer Olympics. Now, the Champions League winner will join his close friend Lionel Messi at Miami where ex-Manchester United player Beckham is a co-owner.
The club was only founded in 2018 by Beckham. When the 49-year-old played in the MLS with LA Galaxy, he contract featured a clause which allowed him to have his own team upon retirement.

Since their creation, they have had five managers including his ex-teammate Phil Neville. Now with Mascherano taking the lead, Beckham had a message for the Argentine. The ex-England international took to Instagram to share a picture of his new manager with the caption: “Bienvenido a Miami, Javiar.” Translated to English it says: “Welcome to Miami, Javier.” The comment was followed by two hearts in the colours of the club’s crest.
Mascherano will be joining Inter at a time where the club is facing its’ biggest controversy yet. FIFA had awarded Beckham’s side with a place in their Club World Cup. It was given off the basis of Inter winning the Supporter’s Shield, an award given to the MLS side with the best regular season record.
A Costa Rican side, Alajuelense, have said that they could sue FIFA if they themselves are not awarded a spot. The controversy was extended when Inter were knocked out of the MLS playoffs in the first round after losing 3-2 to Atlanta United.
Mascherano had originally joined Liverpool on loan from West Ham United. After reaching the Champions League final with the Reds, he joined them permanently for £18m. He would make 94 appearances before leaving to Barcelona where he achieved the majority of his success.
