Liverpool defeated Real Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League to maintain their unbeaten record in the competition. Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo both scored in the second half while Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe missed from the penalty spot.

The result ended a run of eight games against Real Madrid without victory, keeping the Reds top of the table. The Spanish giants meanwhile, have been languishing in 24th place after securing just two wins and losing three.

Carlo Ancelotti had a number of injury concerns heading to Anfield after Vinicius Junior was the latest player to join the treatment room. He suffered a leg injury during their 3-0 win over Leganes last weekend.

Eder Militao, David Alaba, Dani Carvajal, Rodrygo, Aurelien Tchouameni and Lucas Vazquez were also absent due to injuries of their own. Despite staying in the Spanish capital as he recovers from injury, Vini took to social media to show what he was up to during the game.

On Instagram, the Brazilian attacker simply shared a picture of the game on TV.

An injury assessment later confirmed Vini would be sidelined for three to four weeks with injury, prompting the player to respond. He wrote on X: “The crazy calendar. I’m recovering,” followed by a prayer emoji.

After the game, Ancelotti admitted the Reds deserved to win. “To be totally honest, it’s a fair result. Liverpool deserved to win,” he acknowledged.

“They have a real good dynamic at the moment and are in great form. They were really switched on, connected, playing with high intensity. We did okay in the first half, we held them and set up quite well and defended well as a unit.

“In transitions we were okay. But then we lost the ball and once we gained the ball we made the wrong decision going forward.”
