The store had several editions lining the shelves for customers
A city centre store is selling the “gold-dust-like” Labubus. The playful yet slightly fierce looking toys have taken social media, particularly TikTok, by storm as of late.
The fashion accessories, often seen clipped onto bags, were created by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung and popularised through a collaboration with toy store Pop Mart.
Since going viral, the collectables have been spotted on celebrities like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Blackpink’s Lisa and even recently-Anfield performer Dua Lipa.
The dolls surge in popularity can be pinned down to a number of factors including their uniqueness and scarcity of certain designs as well as the “blind box” collecting trend.
With such huge demand for the dolls in the UK, prices can vary depending on when you go, but typically start around the £13.50 mark. However, some are now being resold for hundreds on the likes of eBay and Vinted, according to the BBC.
Worlds Apart, a comic book shop found opposite Lidl on Lime Street, is stocking the Labubus on a “limited quantities basis”.
When the ECHO visited this week, on multiple occasions, the venue had The Monsters Coca-Cola and The Exciting Macaron Labubus lining the shelves.
These were priced at £26.00 and £18.00 respectively and were only available to buy with the rule – one per person.
The venue has been regularly updating its social media to inform its customers as and when they are being stocked and close to selling out.
Worlds Apart also stocks similar products to the plush Labubus including blind box monsters, vinyl figures, candles and fridge magnets.
Labubus were temporarily pulled from all UK stores by Pop Mart after it was reported that customers were fighting over them.
This decision was in place until this month in all 16 Pop Mart stores across the country to “prevent any potential safety issues”.
