Cineworld has confirmed the closure of six additional cinemas as part of its significant restructuring efforts. The cinema giant had previously received approval for its plans in September 2024, after warning a High Court of potential administration risks.

This initial phase led to closures at Glasgow Parkhead, Bedford, Loughborough, Yate, and Swindon Regent Circus. In a recent update, Cineworld announced that its restructuring is now complete but revealed that six more locations will shut down due to landlords opting to take back their properties. The affected cinemas are in Castleford, Leigh, Middlesbrough, Northampton, Poole, and Weymouth.

Javier Sotomayor, President of Cineworld International, commented on the development: “The successful completion of our Restructuring Plan, achieved with the crucial support of our landlords, protects thousands of jobs across the UK and provides us with the financial stability to continue investing in delivering extraordinary experiences for our valued customers. This milestone sets the stage for a brighter future, enabling Cineworld to continue sharing joy in communities across the UK for many years to come.”, reports the Mirror.

On October 6, the cinema chain permanently closed its Swindon Regent Circus, Glasgow Parkhead and Bedford branches – then on October 13, its Yate and Loughborough sites also ceased trading. The closures were announced back in July and originally included Cineworld Hinckley, which will now remain open.

Cineworld previously said it would try to find alternative roles at nearby sites for staff who are affected by the closures.

The North West of England is home to a number of Cineworld sites, including Speke, St Helens and Runcorn. There is also a Cineworld in Broughton and one in Warrington.
