EastEnders dominates as British Soap Awards 2025 winners are announced
EastEnders dominated the British Soap Awards, securing the top prize of best British soap amid fierce competition from Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and Hollyoaks.
The soap celebrated a major milestone, its 40th anniversary year, in style by sweeping up a total of eight awards. Notably, Steve McFadden took home honours for both best dramatic performance and best single episode for his portrayal of Phil Mitchell’s psychosis.
Other notable wins included three awards for Hollyoaks and two for Emmerdale, while Coronation Street garnered recognition through the outstanding achievement award bestowed upon David Neilson for his three-decade-long portrayal of Roy Cropper.
Prior to receiving the scene of the year award, EastEnders icon Anita Dobson reflected on her return, stating: “It was just perfect.”
She appeared hesitant about reprising her role, saying: “I don’t think so; although I should say never say never, it would have to be something extra special”, reports the Mirror.
Gillian Taylforth, the actor behind Kathy Beale, said: “It was just brilliant, although none of us knew that she was coming back. We’ll need Ange back if anything ever happened to Kathy, not that I want it too.”
The star-studded event, hosted by Jane McDonald at London’s Hackney Empire, featured prominent television personalities such as Sir David Jason and Larry Lamb presenting awards. The awards made a triumphant return after last year’s cancellation.
