Liverpool have shown a propensity for getting things done as quickly as possible in the Premier League this season. And that approach is now seemingly also being taken into the transfer market.

With still another week before the window officially opens, the Reds are busy working on bolstering a squad that sauntered to the championship with four games to spare and will finally get their hands on the trophy after the final game of the campaign against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool are close to confirming the £30million capture of right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, and are in talks to sign £125m-rated attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from the Bundesliga side.

They are strong favourites to snap up Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez and will already welcome goalkeeper Giorigi Mamardashvili from Valencia after a £30m agreement was reached last summer.

Liverpool’s squad will reconvene at the AXA Training Centre in the second week in July to begin preparations for the start of the new season, with Arne Slot at pains to avoid making direct comparisons between the challenges facing the Reds and those that Feyenoord had to overcome when defending the Eredivise title they won under the Dutchman two years ago.

And the Reds boss has highlighted why the issues that hampered the start of Feyenoord’s championship defence can be avoided.

“You cannot compare Feyenoord with Liverpool, but we dropped points in the first two games because Feyenoord is different to Liverpool, in a different stage of the pyramid,” he says.

“We had to sell our best players at that moment and it took quite a long time before before we got new ones because Feyenoord was in a much more financial difficult position than Liverpool is now.

“So our squad wasn’t ready in the first game of the season.

“I got the players in late, so we dropped points in the first two games, but that had nothing to do with the mentality, but more with us not being ready for the start of the season because of financial reasons.

“That will be different now.”
