Sefton Park bid farewell to Big Weekend with a dazzling final performance from Mumford & Sons
BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend was closed in spectacular display by Indie-folk band Mumford & Sons. Thousands danced in unison and the crowd became a sea of light, making for an unforgettable final performance.
The mixed weather forecast failed to put a dampener on the sprit of festivalgoers and saw the park filled to the brim from gates opening every day.
Indie-folk band Mumford & Sons was the last act to perform on the Radio 1 Main Stage this evening, calling an end to the festival.
Lead singer Marcus Mumford hopped off the stage to connect with fans, running around the perimeter of the barriers holding hands and singing to the crowd.
Liverpool sang along to ‘Little Lion Man’ with guests line dancing and two-stepping as far as the eye could see. During one performance, thousands lit their phone torches in a beautiful display of unity to create area of light.
Marcus joked he always finds himself in the city when a football celebrations are at their peak. The singer promised he’d visit again soon as the band prepare to head off on their autumn UK tour.
Fireworks go off as Big Weekend draws to a close
Mumford & Son’s set was concluded by a dazzling display of fireworks over the Radio 1 Main Stage, ending the festival with a feast for the ears and eyes.
From the moment Mumford & Sons stepped on stage until the moment they bid farewell, the energy in Sefton Park was palpable even through the screen to viewers watching at home.
Radio 1’s Big Weekend closed in spectacular fashion, with fans dancing right up until the final moments. Across the weekend, the city became a sea of music and colour with Liverpool proving once again it knows how to throw a party.
