Amanda was emotional as she watched the choir on Britain’s Got Talent
Amanda Holden surprised her Britain’s Got Talent golden buzzer act after their episode aired yesterday, Saturday March 21. She struggled to contain her emotions after the choir performed an uplifting rendition of One Day Like This by Elbow.
The Hawkstone Farmers Choir told the judges they were brought together to sing by Jeremy Clarkson. Some members of the public who were watching along were visibly moved by the choir, as the cameras showed them wiping away tears. After the performance, Amanda stood up and hit the golden buzzer as she broke down in floods of tears.
Amanda said: “As soon as you started I completely welled up. I felt so much power, I love the whole community and how you have all got together. You work hard every single day, you absolutely smashed it.”
In a video shared by Amanda to Instagram yesterday, she said: “About last night…. I decided to surprise The Hawkstone Farmers Choir in my favourite local The Fox at Oddington – they had got together to watch their golden buzzer moment on BGT.
“Any excuse for a pint? (of champagne) what a gorgeous evening – so lovely to catch up with them all! Can’t wait for the semifinals.” The video showed Amanda sneaking into the pub as they cheered and rushed to hug her.
Amanda took her time to speak with the family and friends of the choir, and the choir members themselves. She sat with them as the special moment unfolded on TV. When the moment Amanda hit the buzzer arrived, the pub erupted into cheers and applause.
The Heart radio presenter was sent a lot of supportive messages after surprising the choir. One response said: “It was absolutely brilliant to see you last night! Thank you so, so much for pressing that buzzer and filling so many lives with joy.”
Another said: “Love this. Amanda you are beautiful inside and out, these guys were truly amazing.” Further responses included: “So good! Really well done to everyone involved” and “This is what BGT is all about.
“Backing the farmers and giving them the support and boost they need and deserve! Each side of my family are farmers for centuries and I couldn’t be more proud of you.”
Every member of the choir is involved in a career of agriculture, as they told Amanda that singing wasn’t their day job and they are all usually out in the fields.
One choir member said: “We work by ourselves day in and day out, sometimes 16 hours a day and this has brought us together. We are not singers by nature, we are a family and this unites us.”
The choir spokesperson said farming can be lonely and isolating and being able to perform “means the world” to them. Jeremy Clarkson also took time to praise the achievement of the choir.
He said: “I watched Britain’s Got Talent last night for the first time. The choir were fantastic, these guys are all farmers and they work incredibly hard for small rewards. To see them on that stage with all that love in the world made my heart sing. I actually welled up, thank you Amanda Holden for pressing that golden buzzer.
“It shows that people quite like farmers. They were very, very good. Well done all of you. I am a very happy man tonight. That choir is fabulous.”
