Alexis Mac Allister has issued an emotional message to Liverpool fans after the draw with Newcastle. The Argentina international went on to express his ‘sadness’ after it was confirmed he will now serve a suspension in the Premier League.

The Reds were forced to settle for a point in a 3-3 draw with Newcastle on Wednesday night. Mohamed Salah scored a brace with Curtis Jones also on the score sheet, but Liverpool were unable to secure the win with Fabian Schar scoring a late goal to equalise for the home side at St James’ Park.

Arne Slot’s team remain top of the Premier League table with a seven-point lead over Arsenal, who beat Manchester United on Wednesday. Liverpool will now prepare to face Everton at the weekend in what could be the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park before the Blues move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Mac Allister played the full 90 minutes of Liverpool’s draw with Newcastle but picked up a yellow card for a foul in the first half. The booking was a fifth of the season for the midfielder, which means he will now serve a one-game suspension and miss the trip to Goodison to face Everton.

After the full-time whistle, Mac Allister issued a message on social media where he explained why he is “sad” about the reality of missing the Merseyside Derby at the weekend.

“Sometimes it’s not meant to be, but the fight continues,” wrote Mac Allister on Instagram.

“So sad to be suspended for the Merseyside Derby, a huge game, for a yellow that I don’t think I deserved. Time to support the boys from outside, come on Liverpool.”
