Among those recognised for incredible achievements is boxer Natasha Jonas
The King’s Birthday Honours list recognises the achievements and service of people across the UK, from all walks of life. Along with the New Year Honours, it is the most significant announcements of civilian and military gallantry awards.
Honours also celebrate the contribution of well-known personalities, government employees and ordinary people who have served their community and deserve recognition.
Across Merseyside, 24 people have been recognised for their achievements. Among these people are boxer Natasha Jonas and a heroic paramedic who was one of the first people at the scene of the Southport knife attacks last summer. Other NHS staff who assisted in the response to the tragedy have also been honoured by the King for their services.
Merseyside Police Constable Mark Hobin, whose charity efforts were recognised with an MBE was praised by outgoing Chief Constable Serena Kennedy.
She said: “Mark is one of those incredible people who has dedicated a huge portion of his life and service to supporting others through his charitable work.”
The New Year and King’s Birthday honours are awarded by the King following recommendations by the prime minister or senior government ministers. Members of the public can also recommend people for an award.
Honours are typically awarded by the King, Prince of Wales or Princess Royal, at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle or the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Recipients can select their investiture’s date and location but not which member of the Royal Family will preside over the ceremony.
